On the Corner of Biden and Obama
The BMW and the Lexus collided on the corner of Biden and Obama, sending a shrapnel fragment zipping into Susie Lee’s gut. She keeled over and fell to the sidewalk. After a moment recovering from the shock, she managed to lift her head and pull up her blouse to see that her baby was hanging out of the gash in her side like a translucent jellyfish. A woman holding up a Starbuck’s coffee jogged by and briefly looked down at Susie Lee, grimacing at her. “Help me,” Susie Lee cried, reaching out with her blood covered fingers. The woman reluctantly stopped, huffed and turned and asked snipingly, “Are you vaccinated?” Susie Lee shook her head in utter confusion. “You made your own choice then,” the woman said. “Enjoy your covid,” and she jogged away sipping her Mocha Latte. Susie Lee managed to fill her lungs with air as the drivers of the two vehicles exchanged insurance information, one of them sitting on the hood of the wrecked BMW smoking a cigarette. “My baby!” she screamed. “That’s not a baby,” she heard someone laugh. “It’s just tissue. Like you’d blow your nose with.” Susie Lee attempted to hold onto her baby to keep it from wiggling out between her fingers as she sat up. Red slime hung from her bottom lip as she looked up at the person who was speaking to her. They clucked their tongue and pulled out their i-phone from a fanny pack as if it was a priceless piece of art. “I’m assuming you’ll want to go to county,” they said. “My baby!” Susie Lee gurgled. They ignored her and spoke. “There’s another Trump supporter on the corner of Biden and Obama,” they yawned. Then in a whisper, “No, it’s just some hateful racist hick. Take your time.”
